The Los Angeles Lakers 126-86 victory over the Clippers, reaffirmed their dominance Friday night at the Staples Center.
With four Lakers starters scoring in double figures and with Pau Gasol returning from a six-game injury absence with 20 points and six rebounds it wasn’t a tough victory.
Even with a sore back and a broken finger, that did not stop Kobe from hitting a 3-pointer from two steps behind the line to put the Lakers up by 20 in the third quarter.
This game was anything but dull, with Andrew Bynum having 20 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers, whose rivalry got a bit more heated in a third-quarter confrontation between point guards Baron Davis and Derek Fisher.
It only took Fisher and Gasol to trap Davis in a corner for him to start throwing elbows. With one of them landing in Gasol’s chest, Fisher got in his face as did Kobe.
All of this resulting in Davis being called for a flagrant foul and Davis and Fisher were both issued technical fouls.
Quotes for the game:
Kobe, “We played well. We were well rested, came out and executed pretty well and had a big win.”
Pau Gasol, “I felt pretty good. I was a little bit tired and it got a little tight, but I expected that. It felt good. Everything was loose. It was fun, obviously, for me to play basketball and be with the guys out there again and have a good win.”
Phil Jackson, “Well we had a good second half. I think we were ready to have a good half. I didn’t think we played particularly well the first half. In that regular time game, we ended up coming out on top.”
